When I was little The Sound of Music was one of my absolute favorite movies and I knew I wanted the girls to see it. When I came across this pop-up book I really wanted to have it for the babies and that gave me the thought that it would be fun to give Lily a Sound of Music birthday party this year.
I also wanted an occasion to give her the DVD and this My Favorite Things book.
I searched online for ideas for such a party and there wasn’t a ton out there that I thought I could actually pull off, so I had to rely on my own imagination and resources for this one. Lily told me she wanted a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting, not cupcakes but a cake. I Sound of Music-ed with some “do re mi”s and Marshmallow Edelweiss.
For the table I made the Alps out of paper and found some printable Sound of Music paperdolls!
The Von Trapp children for our buffet table!
Also note the “Warm Woolen Mittens” I hung up. I had these in my Christmas/Winter decor in the basement.
Lily wanted to make invitations for our guests. I thought this was a simple idea so I showed Lily. She copied it perfectly!
Food for the party was tricky but I had fun coming up with ideas.
Raindrops on Roses punch.
String Cheese “Whiskers on kittens.”
And popcorn “Silver white winters” that “Melt into Spring” flower plate.
Of course we had to have “Brown paper packages tied up with string” gifts.
And “Girls in White Dresses with Blue Satin Sashes.”
For our game: Pin the Snowflakes on the Nose and Eyelashes.
Lily loved it all. And I had a lot of fun putting her special day together!
What a fun party! Your ideas are so cute! Happy Birthday Lily!
What a wonderful idea!!!! I have to say the paper dolls and the snow topped mountains are my favorite. Brilliant on the snowflakes on the nose and eyelashes! Never in a million years would have thought of that!
I might just have to steal it next year for my music and musical loving girl!
Thank you SO much for sharing,
Lea
What excellent ideas! I love how the paperdoll children are dressed in their outfits made from drapes. Fun, fun ideas. Now I have to pull out my copy of that film….oh, where is it….
Happy Birthday, Lily!
Thanks, you guys are nice! 🙂
