“The season before Easter signifies the troubles in which we live here and now, while the time after Easter which we are celebrating at present signifies the happiness that will be ours in the future.
“What we commemorate before Easter is what we experience in this life; what we celebrate after Easter points to something we do not yet possess. This is why we keep the first season with fasting and prayer; but now the fast is over and we devote the present season to praise. Such is the meaning of the Alleluia we sing.” St. Augustine
It was painful and seemed very very wrong to wake sleeping babies before 6am to make it to our sunrise Easter service. It was raining too to make getting out in the dark cold morning even sweeter. But we did it and lived to tell about it.
I like to wait until after lunch to bring out the Easter basket. In our family Easter basket this year….candy duh, baby food for Mercy finally, and some new books. This year we added Easter ABCs and The Legend of the Easter Egg to our library.
My mom brought along a book that turned out to be an unexpectedly perfect addition, Three Hens and a Peacock, not an Easter story, but did you know that the Peacock is a Christian symbol for the Resurrection? Well, my mom didn’t either but I was giddy with how that turned out.
(You can see more Easter book reviews from me and my friend Katy over HERE.)
I made Easter Bread this year. There are tons of recipes for this, I just used a plain dough recipe and sprinkled salt on top to make it savory instead of sweet. It was not very pretty but it was yummy and I think I’ll give it a go again next year.
Of course the babies wanted an egg hunt!
A fun and relaxing day for a change thanks to my Mama who helped….ok, cooked everything for our Easter dinner and did the dishes.
Blessed Easter to you all.
“Death has been swallowed up in victory.” Alleluia!
