A Bundle of Myrrh

Mercy’s New Life

Sunday Mercy was baptized. Phil lets me chose the hymn we’d sing that day, a perk of being Pastor’s wife!

The hymn I chose was See This Wonder in the Making, a sweet simple hymn with a line I loved:

Miracle each time it happens, As the door to heaven opens
And the Father beams, “Beloved, Heir of gifts a king would covet!”

The miracle of rebirth offered again and again on sinners is a wonder. Baptisms never get old. Over and over again God lavishes His love and forgiveness on sinners and we get to see it happen.

This line also made me think of the wonder that each baby we have is. Six times we’ve been blessed with a new life and it never ceases to amaze me, the miracle that these babies are. A miracle each time it happens.

We open our worthless arms to another child and offer our meager thanks to a loving Father who has given our sweet tiny Mercy new life.

Here we bring a child of nature, Home we take a newborn creature,
Now God’s precious son or daughter, Born again by Word and water.”

The perfect family photo.

You’d think Gerhardt was the one who’d only gotten 2 hours of sleep the night before….

Rainbow to remind us that God keeps those precious promises He makes to us.

The table.

We moved our table against the wall where our Liturgical Table usually sits. I couldn’t help but smile to see that Jesus was a guest seated at the head!

And the hands behind it all.

My lovely aunt Sylvia offered to cater the meal for us. It was amazing.

I can’t thank her and my mom enough for all the help they provided over the past 3 weeks that they were here! They left this morning, now it’s time to go it on my own once again.

You and Phil are in my prayers this week as you “go it on your own.” The Lord will bless you and keep you.

Mercy is a very lucky little baby to be a part of your precious family. Congratulations on Mercy’s baptism.

  5. Welcome to God’s family Mercy! So glad you’re here!

And what a perfect hymn for a Baptism day. I think I’m going to have to tuck away the idea of rainbow inside the cake for later…..

Thanks for sharing! The family photo is completely precious. I’d gotten so little sleep the night before out children’s baptism (they’re twins) that I literally walked out the door in my slippers!
