A Bundle of Myrrh

"My beloved is unto me as a bundle of myrrh." Song of Solomon 1:13

Daybook: February

Living Seasonally

January proved to be a season of sickness and sorrow for our family. Sickness being passed back and forth, lingering. Ephraim is the latest to get the bug, we hope he’ll get over this soon. And a time of mourning the earthly loss of a precious child (my cousin’s) who is now resting in the arms of our risen Lord. Not here long, but very loved and missed.

Now my mind turns to the next season, Lent.

“Alleluia cannot always
Be our song while here below;
Alleluia, our transgressions
Make us for a while forego;
For the solemn time is coming
When our tears for sin must flow.”

 “Therefore in our hymns we pray Thee,
Grant us, blessed Trinity,
At the last to keep Thine Easter
With Thy faithful saints on high;
There to Thee for ever singing
Alleluia joyfully.”

Alleluia, Song of Gladness

Thinking Deeply

Make much of something small today.

Make much of something small.
The pouring-out of tea,
a drying flower’s shadow on the wall
from last week’s sad bouquet.
A fact: it isn’t summer any more.

the elemental sediment
your broom has missed,
and lights each grain of sugar spilled
upon the tabletop, beside
pistachio shells, peel of a clementine.

Turning Pages

I’m reading: Tend to Me: Devotions for Mothers, One Thousand Gifts: Dare to Live Fully Right Where You Are and to satisfy the dork in me, I took up the second book in the dork series I’m reading, A Clash of Kings.

Establishing Rhythm

New baby, Holiday season and sickness does NOTHING for sticking to a routine. I think I’m maybe kind of just now starting to get back on track…a little.

Nurturing Hearts

For Epiphany we often sang “Songs of Thankfulness and Praise”. My heart grew three sizes this week at church when we started to sing it there and my wild Clara girl started to sing along with it! What a gift.

Nurturing Bodies

Candlemas Crepes for the Feast of Purification. Remind me NOT to make crepes for my family again. No one knew what to do with them or wanted to bother finding out.

Cream Puff FAIL! Whipped Cream from scratch PASS!

Hair cut time for Lily.

Nurturing Hands

My hands have been busy.

Hmm, beware WET chair.

Capturing Time

It’s a new era. We’ve moved Gerhardt and Esther downstairs in the guest room next to the big girls’ room and Ephraim will go into the nursery instead of spending his life in the living room. It will be quite and adjustment for me. It’s been a long time since we had only one baby and one crib upstairs!

It’s strangely quiet upstairs now.

“Alleluia, song of gladness,
Voice of joy that cannot die;
Alleluia is the anthem
Ever raised by choirs on high;
In the house of God abiding
Thus they sing eternally.”

    Three-year-old Robbie (my night-owl): “That’s our milk in our kitchen…that’s our clothes…that’s our house. MESSY!”

    Aaaand, he’s pretty much right. I love blog posts like this.

    So you won’t be having crepes on Shrove Tuesday?

  2. Aubri says:

    Ha ha Katy, it’s good to know my house isn’t the only MESSY one on the block, though I know at certain times of the week I’ve got you all beat!

    I’m thinking “no” on Shrove Tuesday crepes but big fat pancakes would be a “yes” to all my babies so I guess I’ll stick with that.

    So sorry to hear about the loss of your cousin’s baby. What sorrowful joy…
