Our thoughts and prayers are with our neighbors in Nebraska. Many of the towns within minutes of us have been affected, one now in ruins. To most people, towns like Pilger, Stanton and Wisner are just names, places on the map, but these are towns we know well, where people we know well live or lived.

Please pray for these people especially those in Pilger where Pastor Makelin (a pastor in our circuit) and his family are. Thankfully they were out of town when the tornado hit. If our information is correct, it destroyed the Lutheran church and parsonage there.

I think this is what is left of the church. *Update, church is in fact gone and parsonage and so much more in this town.

“Why, then, do we poor, wretched humans rack our brains over the nature of God, while we yet fail to grasp by faith the rays of the divine promises or comprehend a spark of God’s commands and works, both of which he has confirmed with words and mighty works?

Truly, we ought to teach God’s unsearchable and unfathomable will; but to take it on ourselves to understand it is a very dangerous thing, through which we may stumble and break our neck.  Even if we knew all these hidden judgments of God, of what use and benefit could it be to us over and above the command and promise of God?

Yet over and above all things, practice faith in God’s promises and in the works of his commandments.” Martin Luther

I’m Okay

Wednesday, February 26th, 2014

I wasn’t going to write about this, I really would just rather forget it ever happened, but I figured I’d let you all know that THIS happened Monday:

van2

I was headed home from grocery shopping in the city. The roads got icy pretty fast. I slid off the highway and slammed into a tree.

After something like this happens you think of all the ways it could have been much worse. I’m so thankful that no one was with me in the van, no one else was around me on the highway, I didn’t go off into one of the many steep ditches on this road, I didn’t flip over (probably due to the tree that stopped me) and of course that I wasn’t hurt.

I did loose 10 of the 24 gallons of milk that were in the back. We really needed that milk….

And now I guess we’re in the market for a new 15 passenger van. I’m hoping for one that isn’t “Kidnapper Van White” but beggars can’t be choosers I suppose.

At The Parsonage – Part I

Wednesday, February 27th, 2013

The snow storm we had last week was no where near as bad as predicted. And after some of the storms we’ve seen since living here, we were left asking Winter, “Is that all you got?” Hmm, I shouldn’t have asked that, winter ain’t over yet…

It’s Coming!

This just started an hour ago. We’re in for 6-12 inches. Aren’t we lucky?
