Phil: What is “Zoll?”
Me: That does not say “Zoll” Phil!

I got the great idea to make a 2011 turtle like the one here to take to a New Years Eve party last night. Seemed easy enough…well, let’s just say I learned that carmel is NOT your friend.

My Kitchen Windowsill

Friday, December 10th, 2010

I’m happy to be participating in this linkup from Like Mother, Like Daughter. The window above my kitchen sink looks into our livingroom. I’ve always wanted a kitchen with a window above the sink that looks out into the yard or across the street or onto a meadow of wildflowers would be ok too, but I’ve learned to appreciate this window since it allows me to peek in on my babies as they play or fight or poke their brother’s eyes. Way better than wildflowers.

I don’t usually do much on this windowsill. I set a bud vase here (occasionally with a “bud”) and a bottle of lotion, but it mostly tends to be the place to dry little things I’ve rinsed or where dirty dishes coming out of Phil’s office await my notice. But during this season, I always try to make it pretty, to brighten up my dish washing! Maybe now I’ll work harder at making this space “prettier”.

From My Recipe Box

Wednesday, October 27th, 2010

I’ve made this salad dressing for my mom a few times now since she’s been here and she had to have the recipe so I figured I’d share it with all of you as well. It’s amazing and so easy!

  • 1/3 cup red wine vinegar
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 onion, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground mustard
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground white pepper

In a blender, combine the red wine vinegar, sugar, vegetable oil, onion, mustard, salt, and pepper. Process until smooth. You can serve this dressing with any number of salads but it’s super yummy with grilled chicken, red onions, strawberries, pecans and feta cheese (most of which I rarely have on hand but a real treat when I do).

Alabama Sweet Potatoes

Saturday, October 16th, 2010

Phil’s Alabama relations, uncle James and aunt Mary Jo, stopped by for a visit this week and left behind a whole box of Cullman County sweet potatoes. (I love that we both have roots in Alabama. We really want to get down there some time y’all!)

We’ve fried ’em, baked ’em and now I’m on the hunt for more ways to enjoy ’em. Let me know if you’ve got a favorite sweet potato recipe!
