Letter A Week

Monday, August 27th, 2012

Last week I began our daily lessons. My plan is to use the alphabet to teach something different each day.

This week our lessons for A:

Virtue (not really one but it worked) and Vocabulary wordAbundant

Bible Verse: “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” John 10:10

Saint: St. Augustine, coloring page HERE. Since Augustine wrote some pretty famous works, our activity for this day was to write a book about Jesus.

Cooking Lesson or Snack: Apple Strudel Muffins

Reading: Angelina and Alice, A Day on the Farm

We didn’t get to the rest of my lesson plan this week which was an Instrument, Composer and the Artist but we had fun with what we did get to.

New Year of Learning

Sunday, August 5th, 2012

12 more days until the new school year begins!! I look forward to a new rhythm and phase of life around here. Clara will be away in the morning at preschool leaving me with Lily, Gerhardt, Esther and soon after, our new baby. Lunch time will be quick then Lily will go off for preschool in the afternoon. I’m eager to see how those afternoons go with most of the babies down for quiet-time. Who knows, I just might begin to have some time for myself and hmm, maybe a few crafts?

Looking ahead I’ve started to plan out our “Home Learning”. We won’t be Home Schooling our children. As appealing as it sounds to me at times for many reasons, there are many other reasons why we have decided that this just won’t work for our family. There are however many things we feel are important for our children to learn and know those aren’t always taught in the Public Schools, so we intend as best as we can, to supplement their education at home starting little while they are little and eventually who knows, Latin (Phil)? Greek(Phil)? Computer Engineering(Uh, Phil)?

Summer Living and Learning

Wednesday, May 30th, 2012

As the school year has come to a close I have found that I really needed come up with a new “schedule” for each day and to have some structured lessons and craft time. Saturdays were always a challenge when Lily was home during the year. So I knew the summer was going to have to be different.

Each (ish) morning after breakfast and cleanup we have our Lesson Time which has consisted of a letter of the alphabet (corresponding to the theme of the day) and/or number, a Bible story or other themed story and a craft. Throughout the summer our Bible lessons will be from the Old Testament and other themes I’m coming up with. I’ll also be sprinkling in some of the Feasts, Festivals and Commemoration days of our Church year. And I’m attempting more scheduled reading time with everyone.
