On September 21st we remember the Apostle Matthew. For this day I pulled out the leftover chocolate coins from St. Nicholas day…don’t tell anyone they were that old. Also, I mixed up some sugar cookies, crosses and coin bags for the despised tax collector who became a disciple of our Lord.

Observing Pentecost

The more babies I’ve had and the busier our days get these observances become increasingly simple but I continue to mark them in some way, I think that’s important for our family. Observing particular holy days on our church calendar does not need to be difficult or involved. For Pentecost, May 20th this year, the babies wore their best reds (the color of this holy day) and we had a fun dessert after lunch or supper. I actually think we missed the special dessert on Sunday and observed more of Pentecost on the following Monday which is called “Whit Monday,” or “Pentecost Monday.” Two days for Pentecost because some of us need a little more time.
The Feast of the Ascension – May 10

I don’t remember where I read it first read it but I remember coming across the tradition some have of picnicking on a hilltop on the Feast of the Ascension. We just happen to live on a hill and lately I’ve had a little obsession with picnicking, so we took supper and a blanket across the parking lot and behind the church to a nice shady spot next to the playground.

Easter Poses
