Shrove Tuesday

Feb. 25: It’s Shrove Tuesday and time for our beignets again! Lent will begin tomorrow, traditionally Christians would prepare for the fasting of Lent by purging the house of “fats.” Cooking with all the butters and eggs was a good way to do that. We don’t observe Lent this way but I still think it’s fun to have beignets on Fat Tuesday.

The Purification of Mary and the Presentation of Our Lord

February 2: Today we mark 40 days after Christ’s birth. Mary and Joseph in keeping the Law go to the temple.

“When the time came for their purification according to the law of Moses, they brought him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord (as it is written in the law of the Lord, “Every firstborn male shall be designated as holy to the Lord”), and they offered a sacrifice according to what is stated in the law of the Lord, “a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons.”

The Fourth Day of Christmas

Christmas At The Parsonage
