March 25: A couple more weeks left in Lent. Nothing feels like it should this year. Dreary rainy cold days cooped up indoors so often. News pours in and we can’t even process it all. I try to hold on to our Lenten traditions but they easily take a back seat to other pressing matters. All we can do is wait for whatever comes next.
This year we don’t blindly shuffle through the motion of Lents past. This Lent has brought with it a pressing knowledge of our mortality. A daily confrontation with the fact that sin brought death. All creation groans not with a mere desire for freedom to leave the house or to attend church but with the longing of the ultimate freedom. Easter morning will come, it won’t feel the same this year either but we rest in knowing that the First Easter morning already came and on it all was accomplished. We can celebrate that regardless of how we feel or what traditions we miss out on this year.
