Counting Down

Wednesday, July 20th, 2011

Lily knows her birthday is in July, she just doesn’t understand that it’s at THE END of July poor thing. Since Clara’s birthday in June she’s been asking if “today is her birthday”. How do you explain to a two year old that she still has to wait three weeks, two weeks, etc?!

It had crossed my mind that I should make her something that she could visually see to tell her how much longer she had to wait like I did for Easter, but I hadn’t gotten around to it. Talking to my brother (the smart one, not the awesome one) on the phone Monday he suggested a chain countdown, like the ones you made in school before Christmas.

Of course! I really like this one here that I was keeping in mind for Christmas and other holidays, but hadn’t I thought of using it for birthdays. Until NOW! I made a quick one with construction paper for Lily to use now, but I think I’ll get some fun fabric soon and make another one to use next time.

Any of you have ways to help littles deal with “how much longer”?

Flashback Friday: Reading With Daddy, Then and Now

Friday, July 8th, 2011

A couple months ago I snapped these pictures of Lily and Phil.

She loves reading books, it was a precious moment and it took me right back to one evening 3 long years ago.

Remember this?! Sigh.

Can’t stand the sweetness!

First VBS Program

Saturday, June 18th, 2011

Lily’s first VBS evening program went better for her than I thought. She had to sit right next to the teacher’s aid and Clara was allowed to sit with her too so I think that helped her not get too scared to be in front of everyone but unfortunately, though she knew some of the songs, she didn’t sing a word.

She stood up one time with all the kiddos but soon made her pouty face and sat the rest of the time.

Then toward the end of the show she began to fall asleep. I’d been afraid this might happen since this thing started right at the girls’ bed time. Oh well!

See! She did know at least ONE song!

Growing Lily

Monday, June 6th, 2011

Today Lily went to Vacation Bible School at our church. I was so excited for her and a little misty eyed (well, in my mind at least) watching her walk out the door with Phil to head over to the church. I love that she is getting old enough to begin doing these things. I’m hoping she loves it too.

She was a little reluctant to stay in her classroom and during recreation she clung to Phil who was overseeing that for a while. She had to come inside the house with me until that was over then seemed okay to go back to her classroom and to her teacher.

I’m looking forward to her being able to sing in the Friday night program the children put on. I’m such a sap for things like that!

I think ahead to her going to Pre-School in August and starting to attend Sunday School. It seems unreal that this time is here. Some days it was hard to imagine her being this age and starting to go out on her own. I get a little worried sometimes thinking of her being under someone else’s care and out from under me. But I’m ready to see her begin to spread her little baby wings!
