Our Advent “Wreath”

Thursday, December 9th, 2010

I had to clean and redecorate our advent wreath this morning since the greenery was beginning to shed and look pitifully like switches. While it was in its naked state I wanted to take the opportunity to show you all the base that was designed and handmade by Phil. I looked everywhere for another advent wreath this year and was about to put down $30 for one I found online when he said he could probably make one for us.

He wasn’t able to make a circle so I wasn’t sure how I would make it look like the “wreath” I had in mind. I also didn’t have the materials to shape my greenery so I just placed it around the candles.

Here it is finished (with original greenery). I think it turned out nicely and am very proud of Phil for making this for us. Thanks Pookie!

Tutu Easy

Friday, November 19th, 2010

I thought that Lily, being all about ballerinas right now, deserved to have a proper tutu. She’s been happy using any old skirt in her closet, but I wanted to give her a little upgrade. I didn’t want to buy one right now so I thought I’d make her one.

I don’t keep tulle laying around the house and since I’m 45 miles from any cities where you could find tulle, I had to get resourceful. I just happened to see this ribbon in a bag the other day and got to work. I found an online tutorial for a “no sew” tutu, sat down with my scissors et voila! And though it sticks out in every direction and really looks more like she should be going to a Luau instead of stepping over to the barre, she LOVES it!

And while we’re discussing ballerinas, look at this one!

I have to say I’m pretty impressed with how Lily stayed “in the lines”. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a 27 month old color with such precision.

Clara’s precision on the other hand, expresses itself very differently. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a 17 month old color with such…hunger.

At The Parsonage

I have to say, all acts of darkness and cat abductions aside, Halloween is one of my favorite holidays and we’ve certainly been enjoying the days leading up to it.

New Scarf

Tuesday, September 21st, 2010

With my mom here I actually got to do a little sewing, you know, for fun! I LOVE scarves and wanted Lily to have one so I made this for her. It’s inspired by this one a much more talented lady made her daughter. Lily loves it and I’m very happy she actually got to wear it a couple times this weekend!
