Remote Learning At the Parsonage

Friday, September 11th, 2020

August 18: I’ll admit the first week of school was rough. So many tech issues and well, sitting at the table on the tablet most of the day is hard for EVERYONE! Do I need to say especially if you’re 5…or 7? We got through it and I began to dread the next couple months but miracle of miracles Friday night we were told by the district that K-2nd graders would only be required to “attend” in the mornings. Shew. I can handle that…I think.

I also realized our set up would have to change if this was going to keep “working.” We did some shuffling after the first few days and finally got a better placement for everyone.

Back to School?

Friday, September 11th, 2020

August 18: Our school year begins. We have 7 kiddos in school this year. Our district decided last minute that all students will remain at home doing remote learning full time instead of a couple days a week, at least through October. This weirdy weird hybrid of “school at home,” not school and not homeschool is a hard spot to be in. While I’m actually very glad to have the kids home full time it’s not the exact way I’d prefer to have them home full time. My heart is not in this but I’m determined to have a good attitude about it. We have no idea how this is going to work, it does seem like a looming train wreck but I’m really going to give a good try.

Hale School Begins

Sunday, March 29th, 2020

March 16: Day 1 of mandatory “Hale School” aka homeschool. I’m glad homeschooling is not a totally foreign idea to me. The logistics of it didn’t worry me too much especially since our schools provided materials. Though I’ve never come close to doing this full time, “schooling” has always been something I’ve naturally incorporated into our family life at certain times already. Thankfully I also have tons of friends who homeschool and have read the blogs of Mamas homeschooling for years so the thought of it didn’t seem too scary.
