Each year in my mind our Thanksgiving meal will look like this…
In the real world it will look more like this…
In my mind I will look this way and we will all sit politely and cheerfully around the table…
In the real world we get to the table looking more like this…
So we had some rough patches today but I have to say overall Thanksgiving wasn’t that bad. I was tired and frazzled once we finally sat down to eat (later than I’d hoped of course) but there were smiles around our table and for the most part we acted quite civilized.
I was worried yesterday that today would be “a nightmare”. I have a cold so I have no sense of smell or taste. I also have raging pink eye in both eyes and came down with an ear infection last night.
But I still give thanks. Thanks that none of the babies are miserably sick, sick yes, more coughing, more pink eye, but not miserable. I give thanks because despite being in tears last night over the pain in my ear, the pain eased and I was able to get out of bed this morning, make breakfast and lunch for my family. I give thanks because we had an abundance of food on our table, even though it didn’t look just right.
And I read this today from Ann Voskamp, “We will give thanks to God not because of how we feel, but because of who He is.”
That said it all.
So a Happy Thanksgiving to all of you.

We began the day very early with our traditional Run/Walk-o-Fun.
I was happy to feel well enough to walk it this year. I only did the 1.5 mile, Phil did his zippy breeze of a 3 miles with the Baby Train again. (more…)
