A Bundle of Myrrh

"My beloved is unto me as a bundle of myrrh." Song of Solomon 1:13

Celebrating Epiphany

January 8th, 2011 by Aubri

“The Eastern Sages saw from far, and followed on His guiding star. And led by light to light they trod and by their gifts confessed their God.” The Star Proclaims the King is Here

It saddens me that Christmastide has come to an end but Christ’s birth continues to bless us and we still have more events in our Savior’s life to celebrate. Epiphany has come and we are reminded of the visit from Magi out of the East. This event in the life of our young Lord has always been so mysterious to me. Who were these men? What did they know about this new “King of the Jews”. Why did they feel the urge to come so far and acknowledge Him, worship Him and confess Him God? And why were Mary and Joseph still in Jerusalem?

We listened to “We Three Kings of Orient Are”. There is so much to think upon in a lot of our Christmas hymns.

Born a King on Bethlehem’s plain
Gold I bring to crown Him again
King forever, ceasing never
Over us all to reign.

Frankincense to offer have I
Incense owns a Deity nigh
Pray’r and praising, all men raising
Worship Him, God most high

Myrrh is mine, its bitter perfume
Breathes of life of gathering gloom
Sorrowing, sighing, bleeding, dying
Sealed in the stone-cold tomb

Glorious now behold Him arise
King and God and Sacrifice
Alleluia, Alleluia
Earth to heav’n replies

A definite confession.

The girls and I had fun on the days leading up to Epiphany by moving our Wisemen around the house on their “journey” to Jerusalem. They spent some time on the bookshelf in the living room….

And high up on a shelf in the kitchen next to the suspiciously dressed “other Wisemen”. We’re not sure they were really from The East.

On Epiphany Lily and I made a crown and we all had fun wearing that. I had very good intentions to make a King Cake for the day but still finding it very hard to bake with all the sweets in the house. Just one more thing I knew I’d have to finish off by myself, so I’ll try this idea next year.

Blessings to you all during this Epiphany season!
