Camping Out

Friday, July 12th, 2013

The big girls had their first camp out this week…in the backyard.

I went out to check on them before bed and I still smile to remember how they were all sitting next to each other singing “The Wheels on the Bus”. So cute.

A Love Story {Part II}

Thursday, July 11th, 2013

Did any of you ever go through a “Third Wheel” phase (or “Spare Tire” phase in my case)?
That was me, surrounded by love with none for myself. I’m sure that smile did nothing for my single state.

I was often told that my problem was that I was “just too picky”. I guess I was and I knew that having become a Lutheran my chances of finding “love” had gone from slim to skinny.

All my wonderful homies…married.
This scene was kind of my life…minus the “smug”.

Arranged: A Love Story {Part I}

Wednesday, July 10th, 2013

Well, since Grace did ask, maybe it’s time to write down the story of how Phil and I came to be Mr. and Mrs.

Someday my babies might want to know about the funny thing that happened on the way to the seminary. They did ask Phil the other night about how he and Mama met and who knows what he told them. So I’m hear to set the record straight.

There are several parts to it that I clearly see where the story could have gone much differently and I’d still be in Austin (not the best place for finding single, normal, Lutheran men), in a band, basking in all my tree hugging hippiness, very alone. But that wasn’t what a very very loving God wanted for me and I am grateful!

Really, I was such a catch! (that’s my supermodel face)

So here’s how it happened…for the record.

Observing The Church Year In the Home

Tuesday, July 9th, 2013

Several years ago I decided to put the calendar of the Church to use in my home. I wanted to do this especially for my children, hoping to teach them and to anchor them in Scripture and the Church.

The Christian Church Year is used for Christians for several reasons. To keep before us historic events important to our faith, for teaching ourselves and our children about Christ’s life and the Gospel and to remind us that this world is not our home, the focus of our lives is or should be on the eternal.
