>What’s in store for Bancroft, NE?

Low
-8° F
Bitterly cold. Snow flurries early. Then partly cloudy overnight. Dangerous wind chills may approach -25F. Low -8F. Winds N at 15 to 25 mph.

WIND CHILL VALUES OF 20 TO 30 BELOW CAN BE EXPECTED LATER TONIGHT AND WEDNESDAY MORNING. ACTUAL AIR TEMPERATURES OF ZERO TO 8 BELOW WITH NORTH WINDS OF 10 TO 20 MPH WILL COMBINE TO BRING THE DANGEROUS WIND CHILLS.

WINDS WILL DIMINISH THROUGH THE DAY WEDNESDAY…BRINGING AN END TO THE BITTERLY COLD WIND CHILLS. HOWEVER AIR TEMPERATURES WILL STRUGGLE TO CLIMB THROUGH THE SINGLE DIGITS WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON.

A WIND CHILL ADVISORY MEANS THAT VERY COLD AIR AND STRONG WINDS WILL COMBINE TO GENERATE LOW WIND CHILLS. THIS WILL RESULT IN FROST BITE AND LEAD TO HYPOTHERMIA IF PRECAUTIONS ARE NOT TAKEN. IF YOU MUST VENTURE OUTDOORS… MAKE SURE YOU WEAR A HAT AND GLOVES.

Again, “If you must venture outdoors…make sure you wear a hat and gloves.”

Ice fishing is totally fun, if you’re into losing fingers, toes and your tiny little ice fishing pole. Kay Schwedhelm took Phil out to Summit Lake for the experience. They caught a few bass but had to throw them back.
Phil assured me he wouldn’t fall in since the ice on the lake is up to a foot thick. He wants to take me out sometime. I’m going to pass though.

This is Kay.

>Sleigh Riding.

Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

>Yesterday we went to the park to do some sledding , or “sleigh riding” as the folks here call it. I was excited about how often they talked about riding in horse drawn sleds around here and couldn’t wait for my turn to dash through the snow in a one horse open sleigh, but alas, I was confused. I had a hard time making myself go face first down this hill on my stomach, but mean old Phil pushed me. I decided it was fun after that and didn’t have too much trouble the next time.

Mean old Phil chooses his path carefully for optimal speed and distance.
