27 Weeks

Saturday, July 17th, 2021

Baby is 27 weeks now. Look at that little face!

For the next 12 weeks we are just tracking her growth, which appears to be appropriate for her age at this point. We also are keeping track of the fluid accumulation on her brain (hydrocephalus.) As of last week it looks to be about the same as it was at 23 weeks which is good to hear. Other good news is I don’t have to worry about Gestational Diabetes having passed that test, I’m glad to scratch that concern off my list at least.

Thank you all again for your ongoing prayers.

What Happens Now

Sunday, June 27th, 2021

Thank you all for your love and prayers. Phil and I are slowly making our way home and should get back to our babies tomorrow. We hope to enjoy the rest of the time we have this Summer as a family doing some fun Summer things and begin preparing for Baby Girl’s birth. The remaining weeks of pregnancy should just proceed as usual but with extra visits to the Fetal Specialist and OB of course. We also have a team of doctors we will need to start putting together and most importantly need to find a good Pediatric Neurosurgeon in Omaha within the next couple months.

We appreciate your ongoing prayers and support!

Returning Home

Friday, June 25th, 2021

After a grueling couple of days of testing and appointments, we have found out that we are not candidates for fetal surgery. A complicated surgery now would not be as beneficial due to the significant damage already caused by the Spina Bifida, which is not what we wanted to hear. We are relieved to be able to go back to our family and home, but also disappointed that more cannot be done for our daughter at this point in time. We get to return home and prepare for a surgery right after birth and for the care she will require. We are thankful for the expertise and information we have received in Houston. Thanks for your concern and prayers.

Testing Day – 1

Thursday, June 24th, 2021

You never know what you’re capable of until you spend and hour and a half of your life pregnant inside an MRI scanner. Oy! The tech had to chase baby “all around the swimming pool” as he put it. But thankfully that went well and thankfully that is over. Hopefully we will have results on those scans today. Today we have an ultrasound, meet with a neonatologist and a neurosurgeon. Thank you all again for the ongoing thoughts and prayers!
