Pastor Appreciation Month

Wednesday, October 20th, 2010

“But we request of you, brethren, that you appreciate those who diligently labor among you, and have charge over you in the Lord and give you instruction, and that you esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Live in peace with one another.” 1 Thessalonians 5:12-13

October is Pastor appreciation month. Here is a list of some ways you can show your pastor your appreciation and love. I ‘heart’ my pastor and my list looks a little different from this one so unless you want to make sure he always has clean underwear and chopped onions to eat with every meal this one from Synod should be more helpful.

Dirndls

Sunday, September 19th, 2010

Phil and I got little dirndls for the girls while we were in Munich. I thought they’d be huge on them but they actually fit so well. We decided they’d better start wearing them STAT (and serving us beer and brats). I thought it’d be the perfect occasion for them to wear them during Phil’s presentation of a slide show of our European vacation that he gave at church last week. (more…)

Vacation Bible School Week

Wednesday, June 9th, 2010

Well, we’re the big show in town this week with our VBS. The curriculum is ranch themed and today they had a horse come to visit the kids. We were told the horse could do some tricks, she rolled over and used to bow but now she’s a little lame so she just gave some of the kids (Phil) a ride.

Phil volunteered our yard to show the horse in. She thought it was pretty tasty. I was just waiting for a “surprise” that Phil would have to be cleaning up. Thankfully that wasn’t a problem but it probably would have been a good show!

Pastor appreciation month has come and gone (it’s October if you aren’t aware that there is even such a thing) but really we should show our pastors how much we appreciate them at all times. However, don’t forget that wife of his! She has a very unique calling.

Blessed are those who show concern for all those in the congregation, for they are the pastors’ wives,

Blessed are those who must sample all food prepared for all church functions and not make ugly faces regardless of how it tastes, for they are the pastors’ wives.

Blessed are those who must smile at all equally so they will not be called names by the hypocrites, for they are the pastors’ wives.

Blessed are those who hear all the gossip but must not offend anyone, for they are the pastors’ wives.

As funny and TRUE as the above statements are, at times those are the “easy parts” of being married to a pastor. Someone sent them to me in an email yesterday and I got to thinking that I would drop this suggestion to pray for the woman that shares her husband and life with your congregation. Her vocation can be lonely and difficult at times.
