Our glider was squeaky. Apparently this was no job for a little WD-40.

>Well, my precious cousin let me know that our expecting a baby was old news now and my blog was in some serious need of updating. So here y’all go. And brown was getting a little old to me up here where, other than white, brown is pretty much all I see, so I’ve given us a bit of green to remind us that, though it seems too far away, Spring will be here soon!

Last weekend Phil and I went on a retreat for local pastors and their families. All the pastors are currently serving in their first call after graduating from one of the two seminaries that our Synod has, so they are all very new to Nebraska and to their churches. It was a small group of 8 pastors, including us. We met at a nice retreat center in Aurora NE. We enjoyed 3 meals a day (no cooking for Aubri!), an indoor swimming pool, hot tub, basketball courts and two full size beds in the room! It was great to get away for a while and get to know some of the other “newbies”. I found it very refreshing to be around other women that have been given the same or similar life as I have. I meant to take more pictures but only got a few.

One of the wives brought scrap booking materials for us to play with.

This is my friend Christi Smith (in black). She and her husband Randall were members of our church back in Austin before they left for Seminary and were called to Nebraska. They live a few hours from us but we keep in touch pretty well. It was good to see them again.

On our way home we encountered high winds and drifting snow! And don’t forget, cold, cold and more cold.

Whiteouts are not fun to drive through.

Before we got to Aurora we stopped in York at a Starbucks! My sweet friend Morgan sent a gift card to me and boy was I happy to use it. My first Java Chip Frappuccino in who knows how long and we only had to drive 130 miles to get it! Thanks Morgan!

Phil loves Starbucks!

I’ve been doing some reading. It’s cold, there’s not much more to do right now, so sorry if this post bores you. Here’s what I’ve been reading:

My friend Brenda read “Omnivore’s Dilemma”. She told me about it. Now that I live in the center of mass agriculture country, it makes a lot more sense to me and has been quite interesting. I think I’ve been annoying Phil with my “molecular” evaluations of everything we eat though.

“Harris and Me” is a book my neighbor loaned to me. She had me come over for a Dr. Pepper and a tour of the library in her basement. It’s a children’s book, though a book for pretty “unruly” children. She thought it would give me a laugh, “everyone needs a good laugh now and then” she said. Next on my reading list are these books:

I don’t have to explain why I’d want to read “Texas” do I ?
