Wooden Dolls

Lily and Clara are having so much fun with these little wooden people my mom made for them.

I got the idea from Serving Pink Lemonade and commissioned her. I gave her a list of characters I thought the girls would like and I think she did an amazing job!

You don’t need much to make these just a few dollars, some paint, a steady hand and a little time. Here are some other sites for wooden doll inspiration:

Just a Wind Storm

Saturday, August 27th, 2011

I have had a great many days in a row where I can’t tell what I did at the end of the day. I am pretty sure I did something. I didn’t sit down that I can remember. These are the kind of days when my husband tells me that I was being fruitful, even if it doesn’t look productive. A fruit tree doesn’t move things from an in-basket to an out-basket all day. It is not in the business of ticking off boxes on a to-do list. Sometimes the business of being fruitful is standing in the rain, holding on to your branches in a wind storm, or simply providing shade. Every day is not an apple harvest day. Every day is part of a process, part of a journey towards fruit. Your whole life is part of a fruit bearing work, but today was just a wind storm.

Washing Pretty

Thursday, April 14th, 2011

Ask and we shall receive Kristi! Someone has created pretty dish washing gloves and now thanks to Marie who was so sweet to think of me and send a wonderful package of goodies, I’ll be so chic and pretty while, well, dish washing. Also included was White Lilac Glycerin Hand Therapy lotion for My Poor Hands!

Marie has known me a while! I had to share this picture of her with me circa… a long time ago.  (I’m the finger muncher.)

My Poor Hands

Sunday, April 3rd, 2011

I’ve inherited my mama’s delicate skin. We both suffer from The Splits. It’s because we were once royalty and just weren’t made to work with our hands….

The tips of my fingers and knuckles are in a constant state of split open. It’s very painful and debilitating really. I’ve tried a lot of different things to try to keep this from happening but when your hands are in as much water as mine are throughout the day, keeping them from drying out and cracking is not easy. So, at Phil’s suggestion, I’ve resorted to these for dishwashing….

And by doing so become my Grandma Sissy. How can I see yellow rubber gloves on the sink and think of anyone else?

I can’t tell if they’re working since I just started using them, but wow! Yellow rubber gloves where have you been all my life? Oh yeah, draped on Grandma’s sink….
