Our Ninth Anniversary

Today we celebrate NINE years!

“This household happiness did not come all at once, but John and Meg had found the key to it, and each year of married life taught them how to use it, unlocking the treasuries of real home love and mutual helpfulness, which the poorest may possess, and the richest cannot buy.

This is the sort of shelf on which young wives and mothers may consent to be laid, safe from the restless fret and fever of the world, finding loyal lovers in the little sons and daughters who cling to them, undaunted by sorrow, poverty, or age, walking side by side, through fair and stormy weather, with a faithful friend, who is, in the true sense of the good old Saxon word, the ‘house-band,’ and learning, as Meg learned, that a woman’s happiest kingdom is home, her highest honor the art of ruling it not as a queen, but as a wise wife and mother.” Little Women

Marriage in a Godless Culture

Last week Phil presented the lengthy version of his opus on Marriage, “Marriage in a Godless Culture” at the Nebraska Lutherans for Confessional Study gathering in Lincoln. Timely indeed.

Briefly to pique your interest:

This paper will give a comprehensive definition, history, and theological description of marriage.  The major focus will be on the role of government and Church in relation to marriage and how Christians should view the legal redefinition of civil marriage.  It will analyze the exegesis of Eph. 5 and the implications for understanding marriage.  It will also describe how to see male/female roles in light of the Gospel and contrast them to emotional love.  This paper will deal with the sins of homosexuality, cohabitation, adultery, divorce, and premarital sex.  The biblical, Lutheran view of marriage will be contrasted with that of Rome, Geneva, and modern pagan culture.

I told him he HAD to open with this clip but he opted out.

You can download and read the paper HERE or if you’re busy and have a lot of laundry to fold you can listen to it the presentation he gave by using the player below or downloading the mp3 HERE.

Oh, August of 2007 and young love…or something like that. Maybe I’ll just call it “young commitment” for Phil’s sake. He and I strolled through this little park in town 7.5 years ago, newly engaged.

And look at us now! So blessed.
