Our Easter Sunday

April 9: We celebrate the Resurrection! Unfortunately I still do not have a family photo or our iconic Easter picture of the babies in front of the spruce tree but this seems to have become the pattern. Eventually we’ll get those!

Gerhardt sketched out this Resurrection scene and cut it out on the scroll saw for me.

Our Holy Week

Monday, April 10th, 2023

Maundy Thursday we keep our traditional feast, each dish symbolizing an event leading up to the crucifixion. After the meal the eldest babies attend service at church. This year I stayed home with the youngest since it was bedtime for some of those.

End of Lent

Seasonal recap! Lent comes to a close this week with the Sunday’s celebration of our Lord’s resurrection. Observing Lent has looked different for us through the years. This year I kept things pretty simple. I loved using these “Lenten Menus” I made for our morning Bible times. This helped keep all of us together and focused on a few things I wanted the kids to learn this season. Once a week we did a quick study of some classical Lenten art work in a devotional book from the Keeping Company. Occasionally the tales we did for our read aloud times tied in nicely with our Lenten reflections. The Selfish Giant was wonderful for this.

St. Irenaeus Bishop of Lyon

June 28: Today the Church recognizes St. Irenaeus Bishop of Lyon (c. 202.) I had every intention of baking something French….hey like this Tarte Tatin.


It didn’t set up at all like I would have liked it to but I’ve already had 4 pieces because it’s basically health food and it’s just that good!


On this day we give thanks to God’s called men who have battled heresy in the past and continue to do so today. Blessed St. Irenaeus Bishop of Lyon
