Feb. 26: Ash Wednesday. Today we begin the observance of Lent. At home we made “Dirt Cake” and “Dirt Soup” (black bean) for lunch. I’ve never seen Abel so excited. He was waaay into both.

Shrove Tuesday

Feb. 25: It’s Shrove Tuesday and time for our beignets again! Lent will begin tomorrow, traditionally Christians would prepare for the fasting of Lent by purging the house of “fats.” Cooking with all the butters and eggs was a good way to do that. We don’t observe Lent this way but I still think it’s fun to have beignets on Fat Tuesday.
