>Another Parade and More Excitement

Here we are lined up in the village of Rosalie, which is substantially smaller than Bancroft. They have an annual Old Settlers’ Parade through their downtown. I knew close the 40% of the attendees by name I would guess—so it was a local affair.

Here is some of the entertainment, our Bancroft-Rosalie school band. Behind them is an old combine. There were plenty of tractors, old cars, and even more risque floats (ask an attendee). Most threw candy or popsicles to us. The big city folks were surprised at what you can get away with in the boondocks. Last year a bar handed out cans of bud light. We had prefect weather and a good time was had by all.
Lily got out of the stroller to see the Parade up close.
Here is arguably one of the biggest events of the weekend. I WON LAWN OF THE WEEK!!! My careful mowing and the tender care I bestowed on my grass finally paid off. This sign, along with a write up in the paper, goes to the best lawn in Bancroft. Truly a great and memorable day.
This should be a separate post, since it is momentous as well. Our first homegrown watermelon from the garden. We were not sure whether it was ripe, but we decided to pick it while we had all the company. Notice the pride of the grower, something I lack with a store bought melon.
It was sweet, red and juicy—an excellent watermelon. The first of hopefully many to come this summer. Aubri had been craving waermelon and this certainly hit the spot.

This fair was ok, but no midget wrestling this year (unlike last year). Still Aubri had her first excursion without Lily. She missed Lily a lot she said, but it was nice to get away.
No fair is complete without a demolition derby. Unfortunately, it ended as we were walking to to it. Still the smoke and engine sounds were cool.

West Point had it’s 150th anniversary celebration parade on Saturday. I heard they’d be throwing out hot dogs so I begged Phil to take me. Unfortunately there were no Scooby Doo floats or marching bands, but there was plenty of other stuff to see.

We went with our friends Kevin and Christi Cook who live in West Point. Christi’s parents were also in town.

And of course their baby Leah came too!

Here are some of the highlights of the parade:

These “ladies”.

This Wimmer’s hot dog shooter lived up to everything I’d heard about it. It made my day! We got 3 hot dogs!

These folks were there,

This beef,

And this guy.

This one’s for Weslie. 107.9 The Bull!

???

I called this the Fry Guy, what’s wrong with me? He looks nothing like the Fry Guy! Thank you Topher! This is obviously the Hamburgler. Of course he’d make an appearance here in Beef County NE! Hey, I’m pregnant, all I want are french fries these days. My apologies to all.

The Shriners were the grand fanale! I’m telling you, the days of the Macy’s Thanksgiving parade are numbered!

The big event in town last weekend was the estate auction! We had to go and uh, it’s just like in the movies. I couldn’t believe anyone could understand that auctioneer, but things were flying off the, well, grass and tables. Phil decided to get in on the fun. He won a grease gun and an old tool box full of lots of little metal things he’ll never need and a 9 inch bolt for $4. He was so proud. I’m just glad the auctioneer said $4 and not $40….who knew?

I’m not sure how much this thing went for but I’m glad Phil wasn’t around when it was up.

Or when they sold this thing….
