Monday was “Funday” for the family. We headed to Omaha to visit the zoo there for the first time. We had a great time! The girls did very well.

Lily loves Elephants. Until recently most every animal was an Elephant. So I couldn’t wait to see what she’d do when she saw them. Her response was totally “lack luster”. I like to think that she was just too emotionally overwhelmed with the experience….star struck, you know how it is.

They even gave her the show of a lifetime!

At the Gorilla House.

The gorilla (in the background).

and tigers! Most were sleeping when we walked past, a bit of a downer, but we couldn’t blame them, it was a scorching 79 degrees!

A trip to the desert.

This is what Phil would look like if he were in Africa.

The Aquarium was a favorite spot for all.

Especially Clara who was so emotionally overwhelmed by all the fish and coped by sleeping through the whole thing.

The jellyfish were cool and if you didn’t notice… GLOWING.

On the way home Clara wouldn’t stop talking about how much fun she had at the zoo until we reminded her that uh, she slept the entire time.

This weekend was our county fair. We decided to go on over to it. We left Clara with our neighbor since we figured she wouldn’t get much out of it this year. We thought Lily would love to see the exotic animals at the Wildlife Exhibit but she was much more entertained by the humans around us to notice the Hissing Cockroaches and the Lemur. She seemed to notice the Kangaroo at least.

Uh, then we tried the “petting” zoo where there was ABSOLUTELY no petting on Lily’s part. I can’t say that I blame her though, that Pony’s got devil eyes! (enlarge the picture to see what I mean if you dare.)

And this was the biggest horse I’ve ever seen in my life. And I’ve seen a lot of horses. I was afraid of this gal! My camera died after this picture so sorry you can’t get the full effect of just how big this horse was.
After a couple hours Lily was cranky and ready to get home. We’ll try again next year when I just know she’ll be in a better mood!

We were asked to be a part of the parade our neighboring town had last weekend! Since Phil is the vacancy pastor at St. John’s he was invited to ride on their float and the rest of us tagged along.

Look at all the people! I know what you’re thinking, it really is a lot like the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade.

All hail the Hales!

I thought I’d share a couple of the gardens around our town. I’ve been taking morning walks and always like passing these.

Look at all the poppies! I love these!

And here’s our garden. No flowers, but lots of veggies that are doing well and that we hope to be eating in another month or so.

And here is the table and bench Phil’s dad made for our patio. They seem too pretty to be outside, but we’ve really been enjoying them!
