One Week Old

Wednesday, October 6th, 2021

October 6: Today Rose is one week old! It was a big day for her. An ultrasound was done on her kidneys and bladder to try to determine how well they are functioning. Results aren’t available just yet. She also had a hearing test which she passed. Tomorrow she will start laying on her back, hopefully she handles that well!  We are so blessed, this NICU experience has been so good, with such an attentive and compassionate nursing staff. I can’t believe how quickly it seems to be going by.

My Heart Is In the NICU

Sunday, October 3rd, 2021

I was discharged today. Such a bittersweet day. I know I’ll be back in the morning to see my baby and I know she’s where she needs to be, in good hands but….I’m sure I don’t even have to say how hard that is.  I had a huge welcome home from all my other babies this afternoon which did my heart good.

Rose continues to be content and right where her doctors want her to be as recovery goes and I’m finally feeling almost sort of normal for the first time. Both of us just need to keep resting up!

Rose Update Day 3

Friday, October 1st, 2021

Update time. We’re thankful to report that Rose is doing wonderfully, really everything is going as well as it can be. She is resting soundly and eating…from a bottle which is a huge deal! As of now there should be no reason for an NG tube if she continues to do well with that. Also her IV could come out today or tomorrow. She has not needed oxygen today since she is breathing so well on her own. Aubri was able to hold her for about an hour today much sooner than expected.

Another ultrasound was done on her head this afternoon to measure the ventricles in her brain. This is something that has to be monitored now that her back is closed and spinal fluid has nowhere to go. We do not have the results from that yet but hope to know a little more later today once her neurosurgeon sees them and we meet with her. It could be a few more days before there’s a plan on how to redirect the fluid if need be.
