Cinco De Mayo

Saturday, May 5th, 2012

Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about roots, heritage and culture and it seems the older I get the more of these things I acquire, if that’s possible. Born in the deep South of Alabama, raised a bit in Germany then much of my life in Texas and now living here in Nebraska where my children will have roots. All of these places have left (and are leaving) there mark on me in different ways and I find them coming out at times like today, Cinco de Mayo.

I guess my years in Texas make me want to celebrate today for the touches of Mexico I grew up with there. And since my babies will never know that, I bring it to them. Just like yesterday, my Southerny side was coming out as I sat on the porch sipping my sweet iced tea, reading my Southern Living magazine while Lily laughed and splashed in her plastic pool. You just can’t get away from your roots, and really, I wouldn’t want to!

Pictured above is a “Mexican Hot Dog”. Clara wanted hot dogs for lunch so I went with it. Most Mexican Hot Dogs are wrapped in bacon, grilled, then topped with all the “Mexican” deliciousness that you can find in your fridge. On mine; sauteed onions and green chile peppers, cheese, cilantro and of course salsa, then you tuck all that (if you can) into a warm tortilla.

Easter Babies

Friday, April 13th, 2012

I took photos of the babies in their new Easter outfits a couple weeks ago when we had some nice weather. My mom made dresses for the big girls again this year, aren’t they pretty?

I couldn’t pick less than 10 photos…actually I had it narrowed down to 60 something but really, that’s just too much for one post, so my solution was of course…slideshow! I’m such a sucker for pictures set to music.

The Great Fifty Days

“Let no one weep for his iniquities, for pardon has shone forth from the grave. Let no one fear death, for the Savior’s death has set us free. He who was held prisoner of it, has annihilated it. By descending into Hell, he has made Hell captive.”
