A Bundle of Myrrh

Toys for Tots?

March 13th, 2011 by Aubri

Ok, maybe it shouldn’t bother me as much as it does, but this new trend really makes me mad. Not only because toy makers are messing with the toys I loved as a child but because I don’t think the message these new toys are sending our daughters is good at all.

I’m already frustrated that most of the clothing marketed to young children are the same styles I see in the Ladies sections of the same stores. I don’t want my 2 year old looking like a 25 year old woman thanks. Now it seems that even some of the toys that I would like to let my girls play with someday look like 20 year old bar hoppers I used to see on 6th St. in Austin! Yuk.

You can read articles on this problem here and here. Want to see more of what I’m talking about?

Tisk, tisk, Rainbow Brite.

Troll Dolls….really?!

Uh, this wins my “most disturbing award”. That is a HORSE in stilettos and matching handbag.

And this one probably upsets me most. What happened to sweet Holly Hobbie? She just looks like every other girl now. Boo!

    Boo indeed!

Triple boo. I taught third graders six years ago who were obsessed with the Bratz dolls. HORRIBLE. Sometimes, I have to admit, I’m glad we have boys.

I’m thankful you are a wise, godly Mama that wants to bring up your children the right way. Keep up the good work.

Oh, this bothers me too. I do NOT get the idea that our little girls are being pushed so hard to grow up so fast. This trend in clothing is just as bad…do you know how hard it is to buy clothes for a 10 year old girl that doedsn’t make her look like a slutty, bratty 16 year old??? It is so ridiculous!!

Yes, 2 is the new 6! And at 6 you should go ahead and be 13. I’m very saddened by what I see happening with young ladies and even tiny ladies like mine! It seems to be a constant battle of endurance, parent against child. I think many parents get worn down and finally just start buying the clothing their daughters “just have to have” since everyone else is wearing it. And I know it’s getting harder to even find clothes you want them to wear. I’m just so tired of seeing the clothes get tighter and tighter on young women. And Abercrombie and Fitch is now marketing a padded bikini top for 8-14 year old girls. Why would an 8 year old need that?! Grrr.
