Lent Is Here

Once again we get out the Purple of another season of Repentance and Reflection. Once again I think of all the ways we can use in our home to keep this season in the front of our minds as we plod through the days. Some plans we stick with, the simpler the better. Some fall by the wayside and hopefully will return another year.

This year for Lent we will:
1. Catechesis- The Ten Commandments during our Bible Time, memorizing them and their meanings from our Catechism.
2. Memory Verses- Romans 6:23, Romans 5:8
3. Hymns – Glory Be To Jesus, On My Heart Imprint Your Image, In the Cross of Christ I Glory,  Stricken, Smitten, and Afflicted
4. And this one is a hard one for me, but we’ll try to attend some of the Wednesday Vesper services.
5. Praying for a few missionaries and their families.

That’s all I have for now. I love using our Jesus Tree ornaments and want to use that this season but need to get a few things together for that still. Also I might put out our spiral countdown calendar but we have a climbing grabby toddler in the house so that has yet to happen as well.

For Ash Wednesday we colored this sheet and discussed the ashes we would get placed on our foreheads. I also read a little to the babies, I have a hard time finding books for kids that are mostly just about the Lenten season but we read the first part of the Mouse Prints book, The Time of Easter. And we made “Ashy playdough” to play with.

And it’s always appropriate to have food that looks like dirt on Ash Wednesday right? Black Bean Soup for the win.

Further thoughts on Ash Wednesday:

Ash Wednesday is Hard on a Mother’s Heart

“This Lamb is Christ, the soul’s great Friend,
The Lamb of God, our Savior;
Him God the Father chose to send
To gain for us His favor.
“Go forth, My Son,” the Father saith,
“And free men from the fear of death,
From guilt and condemnation.
The wrath and stripes are hard to bear,
But by Thy Passion men shall share
The fruit of Thy salvation.”

One Response to “Lent Is Here”

  1. Nancy says:

Food that looks like dirt is much better than green eggs and ham. Doesn’t even sound good let alone look good. I know as I’ve witnessed it at a library thing for kids.

Bless you both for all you do for your children.
